Samonas Sound Therapy
Sound has a profound effect on the entire body because our sense of hearing has many connections throughout the mind/body system. Sound can be used to address attention, coordination, memory, speech, and sensory integration problems. Samonas Sound Therapy (SST) uses the sounds of music, nature, and the human voice to do just that.
SST combines the art and science of sound into a structured audio program that can be accomplished in the home. It is the result of 20 years of research by a German sound engineer, Ingo Steinbach, whose background includes studies in music, electronics, and physics. Today SST is used world wide by more than 3,000 practitioners.
The SST recordings stimulate the middle ear, cochlea, auditory nerve and cerebral cortex, which indirectly affects the entire central nervous system. By listening, an individual’s auditory system is re-mapped to allow a full range of sound processing. People can then complete tasks without being bothered by audio distortions, irritations, or the distraction of ambient sounds.
People of all ages, including infants, can benefit from SST. Users have reported improved short term memory, increased auditory perception, restoration of hearing loss, and less sensitivity to sound. Others acquire better focus, better language and speech capability, better inter-hemispheric brain communication, or the development of hemispheric dominance.
SST is recommended for children with:
- Down Syndrome
- Dyslexia / learning disabilities
- Hearing loss and deafness
- Cerebral Palsy
- Pervasive developmental delay or developmental delays
- Speech and language problems
Anyone with difficulty expressing themselves, long or short term memory problems, a history of ear infections, and difficulty discriminating sounds could potentially benefit from SST.
This program is recommended to be used with other treatments such as occupational or speech therapy. SST is most effective when used by therapists with a professional background in fields such as neurodevelopment, audiology, and special education. SST is not meant to replace medications or other treatments.
Therapists or other treatment providers may assign specific tasks for the individual to do while listening to the program’s CDs. This enhances the therapeutic effect. Find more information on the Samonas CDs at: riverbendds.org.
